Finish
My favorite finish is a hand rubbed oil finish. I make my oil finish from equal parts boiled linseed oil, tung oil and urethane. Typically four coats of oil are applied. After drying the piece is rubbed with extra fine steel wool and paste wax. One of the advantages of this finish is that it can be easily repaired by you, the owner. Care and repair instructions are provided with each piece.
An alternate finish is shellac. A hand rubbed shellac finish can provide everything from a gloss sheen to a muted luster. While durable, this finish is harder to repair without knowledge and patience.
